Grade: A-
One of the most anticipated movies of 2011 and let me be one of the first to say, it was well worth the wait.
Everyone knows the tragedy of Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, a movie with awesome (but pointless) action scenes, a weak story line, and banking off the fact that people will be wowed by the robots transforming versus giving you an actual movie. Though I liked sequel and I recommend seeing it, this third installment is what transformers should have been from the beginning: Epic. I venture to say its better than the first movie and really brings the feeling of what transformers was intended to be.
Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon starts off a little slow, but its to give you an understanding of characters and build the plot so it can come together later and make you say to yourself “ well damn.” The storyline was a basic one, alien invasion, but it definitely had the twist and turns to differentiate itself in order to keep your attention grasped without overdoing it. The comedy in the movie was reduced, but more potent which ended up accelerating the movie in its performance. The real action starts midway into the movie and never really falls off long enough to ask yourself “where the hell are the explosions?!” The action is also not randomly thrown in to live up to the anticipation of it , but rather placed in moments to strengthen the course of the movie. Though I was a little skeptical of the 3D version of the movie, it was actually pleasant to see and really gave you a feel of how large in scale the robots were and how it would look if you were actually standing there as it was happening. The movie also featured less focus on the relationship between the main character and his love interest, and focused on the true reason why you paid $13 a ticket; some bad ass robots.
Overall: The action in the movie is awesome and the 3D was not cheesy like Clash of the Titans or something. The movie is over 2 hours but its well worth the time sitting in your chair drinking a Pepsi and getting popcorn stuck in your teeth.
